The ten five is commonly nicknamed the Five and Dime, Woolworths, the Dime Store, the Variety store, or what have you. True to these nicknames, the 5 and 10 is essentially a grab bag of a hand, only when you open up the grab bag you see a big steaming block of cow dung. The point here is that there’s little to no utility to the 5 and dime even no matter how much you think you are a Gus Hansen or Hoyt Corkins style of man. Fold, please. Fold. You’re doing yourself a favor in the long run when you play poker online.
In a head up situation the 5 and 10 might still be a raising hand, in position, but even then you’re pushing the line. There’s just not a lot of poker hands you can do anything against with these holdings.
One thing I do like about the 5 10 is the way it seems in some lights like you are holding three cards. You have a 5, and 10 is like two fives, so it might seem like you are already holding a rolled up three of a kind. In the event this logic makes sense to you, and you are near an online poker table, I’d advise cashing in and standing up right now. Unless I’m seated with you. In that case, go ahead and raise.
